PDF to Excel

Extract tables from PDF into Excel spreadsheet format.

Encrypted upload · Auto-deleted after 1 hour · PDPA compliant

PDFs containing tables — bank statements, financial reports, inventory lists, data exports — are notoriously difficult to work with because the numbers are locked in an image-like format. Our PDF to Excel converter detects table structures in the document and extracts rows and columns into a properly formatted .xlsx spreadsheet you can filter, sort, and calculate with.

When you need PDF data in a spreadsheet

Accountants reconciling transactions regularly receive PDF bank statements from Maybank, CIMB, or Public Bank. Manually re-typing those figures into Excel is error-prone and slow — converting the statement directly yields an editable spreadsheet in seconds. Finance teams working on quarterly reviews extract data from PDF financial reports into Excel for pivot table analysis. Tax preparers using data from LHDN assessment notices or EPF statements in PDF form convert them to Excel to cross-reference with client records. Importing PDF export reports from Shopee or Lazada into Excel helps sellers analyse sales trends without copy-pasting.

How to use PDF to Excel — step by step

1

Upload the PDF

Drop the PDF that contains tables or structured data. Text-based PDFs convert with highest accuracy; scanned tables require OCR processing first.

2

Process the file

The engine identifies table regions, extracts row and column structure, and maps cell content into spreadsheet cells.

3

Open in Excel

Download the .xlsx file. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc. Review the data and delete any blank rows created by table borders.

Tips for best results

PDFs with clear ruling lines around table cells convert most accurately. Tables using only whitespace to separate columns may need manual cleanup.

Run the PDF through Compress PDF first if it is very large — smaller files process faster without sacrificing table extraction quality.

After conversion, use Excel's "Remove Duplicates" and "Trim" features to clean any whitespace or repeated header rows introduced during extraction.

Merged cells in PDFs often split into multiple cells in Excel. Watch for this in header rows where column spans existed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are some numbers showing as text in Excel?

Currency symbols, separators, or non-standard number formats (e.g., Malaysian RM format with commas) can cause Excel to treat numbers as text. Remove the symbols and use the "Convert to Number" Excel prompt, or use a formula to strip the formatting.

Does the converter handle multi-page tables?

Yes. Tables that span multiple PDF pages are joined into a single continuous sheet with repeated header detection to avoid duplicating column headings.

Can it extract data from a scanned PDF bank statement?

Not directly. Scanned statements are images — the converter cannot read image text. Run the PDF through OCR PDF first to create a text-searchable version, then convert to Excel.

Will charts and graphs be included in the Excel output?

Charts embedded in PDFs are not converted to Excel charts. Only raw table data is extracted. Charts appear as blank areas in the spreadsheet.

Can I extract only specific pages?

At present, all pages are processed. Split the PDF to your target pages first using the Split PDF tool, then convert the smaller file to Excel.
